I'm in full Marvel overload. And Batman v. Superman just looks awful. I'm over this. I'm sure there will be some good ones, but it's just overkill for me.

I'm sick of movies that are basically clones of a movie already made.
Never mind clones, how many have they re-MADE?

It's because of the MONIES. The executives, they KNOW they can make MONIES if they keep recreating the same BS over and over again! Agghhhhhhhhh.

Don't even get me started on unnecessary sequels, re-boots, and remakes. There's so much talent out there, but so little appetite for original ideas.

Anyone old enough to remember the original computer game "Lemmings"?
Remember how hard some of the levels were?
Remember what happened when an idea didn't work?

Watching an online feed of things that are "trending" makes me feel like I'm watching a real life version of the game...

I haven't even seen Batman v Superman yet. It looks awful. Not a fan of Zack Snyder's stuff at all.

He directed "300", "Sucker Punch" and "Watchmen", none of which I liked. He did do the "Dawn of the Dead" remake which was great. Maybe a one hit wonder in my books.

300 wasn't so bad? i liked that one scene where it was just a continuous take of leonidas carnage.
but you're right, sucker punch and watchmen weren't that great

His stuff is all CGI effects. No character, no heart. I hated 300, but that is probably the best of those 3.

Developing complex characters and finding actors to play these roles has nothing to do with the fact the film was shot in green-screen. I'm not sure "CGI" has anything to do with "no character, no heart"...

...or was that intended to be two distinct, unrelated comments?

Two distinct, BUT related comments. When filmmakers are too concerned with what they can accomplish technically these days, character and story can often get lost. I definitely think there's a relationship between the two, although I'm certainly not implying that films with a lot of CGI are automatically void of great characters. In fact, I would argue something like the new Star Wars is a great example of a film that can strike a balance between the two.

As much as Michael Bay is definitely part of the problem, there's something almost gleefully stupid about his movies that I can appreciate. I love Bad Boys 2.

Gotcha, Matrix for me. The story and acting were brilliant, but they couldn't have "sold" it on the big screen without the special effects. My issue is that too many films are given more credit than they deserve; usually because the mob is mesmerized by "spectacular" special effects (which mask the terrible acting, directing and overall story).

Talking about TMNT brings up a whole other issue of mine, one about how kids don't play anymore, and that's a whole other can of worms... heh.

You know, I would really like to revisit the first Matrix to see how it holds up. From memory, I would definitely agree that it's a great example of combining modern effects with effective character and story.

Back to comic book movies for a sec, I'm kind of curious about Captain America: Civil War.
