    Hello,

It seems this Teens Forum is not actually populated with actual teens, therefore, I decide to post this to say - ANY TEENS OUT THERE?!!!!!!!?!!??

Thanks, and reply if you see this, thank you.

Bahahaha, CK, you have a *lot* to learn. I don't think "Teens" was ever "Teens", just people that were "Teens" in 2005-2007, when the site was at it's biggest.

Depends how you look at it. Communities were formed in the fora, those communities continued where they were, regardless of how they evolved, and even if the people and topic no longer matched.

    Ahahaha...

Perhaps you could tell us about your experience here in Nexopia? Since you've joined in 2004, there must've been a ton of shenanigans goin' around since that time!

I think 2006-2008 was the period where the site was most active. During the evening, it was not uncommon to see 10-15,000 users online at once. The forums saw a massive amount of activity. Even though I was not active in the forums, my profile still got upwards of 40,000 views.

At one point, all pictures were moderated. Gallery pictures were moderated after appearing online, profile pictures moderated before they showed up. Volunteers handled the pic-modding duties and users who successfully got (and kept) "jobs" as moderators, be it forum or pictures, were generally envied. Strict rules governed profile pictures - the rationale being that the site was meant for networking and though you didn't need to provide your real name or real location, you were required to use a *real* picture, if you wanted to upload profile pictures at all.

The site, as anyone here last saw it, was rolled out in 2009. Traffic already declining, many users considered the updated look and feel to be unnecessary, and user activity declined even faster until 2013, and from that point, it wasn't uncommon to see less than 5 users online.

Towards the end, there was quite a bit of downtime, any users who had been active stopped logging in. I believe the site was sold, and the majority of the original staff were no longer working for the company. I'm not sure when the current ownership group took over.

As far as shenanigans, there were many people who were known around the site, though not by me, for the most part. Profiles were extremely customizable, one of the main reasons users preferred Nexopia. There were many users who wrote B-Code layouts for other users, posting the code to their creations in blogs. When the new profiles rolled out, they were less flexible which prompted the departure of many. Due to the size of the site (tiny, when compared to MySpace and Facebook), some staff members were active in the forum communities which is pretty uncommon.

Neat facts. Timo's account was the first created, my account was the 75495th. As of 12 months ago, there remained two active users whose accounts were older than mine, but I did not know them. The old offices were downtown Edmonton, a brick building. If I remember correctly, the main floor was like a small mall, and Nexopia's offices were on the third. There must have been a college nearby, there were tons of students around when I was there in 2009.

That's all that really comes to my mind right now.... If anyone is curious about anything from the old site, let me know. Other than specifics about individual forums, I can probably answer most questions.

Another thing, many users considered it a point of pride to boast their forum post counts and profile hit counts. It was not uncommon to see either of these numbers in excess of 100,000.

Plus was reasonably popular. For ~$30USD per year, you were allowed additional profile pictures (5 extra), bigger albums, more content space on your profile, an optional badge for your profile indicating you had plus, as well as the ability to change the colour scheme of your profile. Other features were available, such as being able to see who had visited your profile, or to hide yourself from the "recent visitors" list of others. Plus also allowed you to change your forum title (mine currently says "Member", CKVanquish's above me reads "New Member"). Additionally, every user received a free week of plus on their nexiversary, and in the early days, I believe there were Nexopia organized real-life events where plus was sometimes given away, if you go back far enough. I believe that Macs stores in Alberta were carrying Nexopia Plus vouchers at one point too, though not being from Edmonton, and being that we're talking about events from a decade ago, I don't remember all the details. Unfortunately, despite the popularity of plus, many of the features changed once the new version of the site had fully rolled out, and many people felt that the perks were no longer worth the cost.

Users were encouraged to upload a sign picture (a selfie that included username@nexopia written on something) to "prove" the user's identity. Anyone who had successfully uploaded a sign picture (and had it pass the strict guidelines) would earn the "Verified User" badge for their profile.

The badges I remember seeing: Moderator, Pic Mod, Staff Member, Plus Member, Verified User... I always wondered if staff had the ability to give themselves whatever "badge" that they wanted, there was the odd weird/uncommon one. It seems to me that Timo had "Founder" at some point.

The Old Site? I didn't know about that.

Perhaps you could describe a bit more about it? I'm rather interested.

    2003, Nexopia starts
    2009, Profiles are redesigned
    2015, Nexopia gets migrated
    2016, Nexopia gets redesigned again
I'd say, the site was at it's biggest around 2008. Many of the changes in 2009 were unpopular, the ones in 2015 even less so. So, the fact that the site is stable again is almost like bringing a new site online, unless the current management can find a way of convincing old users to come back.
    .
Forums were huge back then. People used blogs as a replacement to something dedicated like livejournal. The profiles were editable with standard BCODE tags, giving users a pretty wide range of formatting options for the various free-form text areas on their profiles.

I randomly found this screenshot posted online. This is definitely post the 2009 changes, based only on the user and when I last remember seeing them active, I think it would be about 2010.

Speaking of which, I think there was a thread about her prior to the little refresh of the site a few months ago.

Edit: Thinking about this again, though this user doesn't have plus, this screenshot is post-2009... It's been so long since I last saw the "original" site...

Sorry, I don't really have the energy to sift through google images for more.

My, my...what a veritable collection! Looking back in Internet history is so...ah...really cool

I found out this site by random chance, by the way, while lurking around the Internet. I found the site looked aesthetically pleasing and thought to myself 'eh, why not?' and now I've ended up here, haha!

    :P
