Dug up a few pages from archive.org and uploaded screengrabs to imgur: http://imgur.com/a/rDm0E I'll try and find some more that are post-profile changes at some point, just not now, I'm lazy. (Also, using imgur here is a touch ironic, considering that any community driven forum is in direct competition with reddit... well, I hope someone connects all the dots)
Oh, note the time between threads. I included printscreens of AS, Teens, and Would You, some of the fastest updating threads were found there. Also gives you a clue as to the topics.
We just hid some of the sections that people weren't using while we try to get the user numbers up. Once the demand is there, we'll bring back those forums.
@CKVanquish The individual topics would be user created... And plus users could create their own forums anyway... You're comparing apples to oranges =) Plus what @Mark CM said, there's no point having 9000 forums for 9 users.
Yeah, digging those up was pretty crazy for me, since it brought back some decade old memories. Yes, this place used to be one unique type of insanity.... heh
I loved all of those screenshots oh my god....I only just got into nexopia at the tail end of its popularity (this account was made mid-2008, but I believe my first account was made sometime in 2005-2006), but I met a lot of people here that I still keep in touch with. Geez what a throwback
Incidentally, I still sometimes say "size 7 bold it" when I really want to emphasize something...it's crazy how much this site sticks with you
I believe that the original handful of accounts date to mid 2003. It's pretty neat when you start looking at UID numbers against join dates. You can accurately plot the site's popularity over time. I would consider 06-07 the heyday, but anywhere from 2004 to 2009 was pretty crazy. It was the big alternate to MySpace. It was Facebook taking hold by 2007-2008 that was the ultimate demise of Nexopia... or at least, that's my opinion...
Oh yeah, I remember starting around 2006 but I didn't really get into the 'vibe' for a year or so (I was also 12/13 so - underage, by Nexopia's standards, and also just beginning to feel my way around social media beyond MSN messenger and habbo hotel). Shortly after I started being an active member of the community Facebook became a thing and everybody started migrating that way. I guess looking back I still had a solid 3 years on here when it was bumpin' but it doesn't feel like that long.
I know what you mean, except I don't quite remember the beginning. I'm not sure how active I actually was for the first year... 12 years is a long time to remember.
