@SAKARINBO you seem to be the most into fashion.. can you tell me what the current jewelry trend is? Last time I checked it was chokers, midi rings and flower crowns but I'm not sure anymore :imslow:

Ooh, I wanted to make a thread on cultural appropriation. I've never understood it, seems like a stupid thing to get upset over to me. Also, I find the culture they're supposed to be appropriating never care and it's always someone getting offended on behalf of someone else.

It's about how it's done. The fashion industry has been "borrowing" design ideas from other cultures forever, but when it's done in an offensive way (the shitfaced belligerent white girl in a cheap and poorly made imitation of a ceremonial Native American headdress, acting like a POS at Coachella) it's not ok

I can see it being offensive if it's a religious/sacred thing they're wearing, that's fair enough. I feel like it would apply to Native Americans more than any other group because they're losing their traditional culture (from what I understand).

Yah, so maybe that's why I don't care/understand. I've never met a Native American before and I didn't even know they existed until I watched The Last of the Mohicans a few years ago.

    You poor ignorant child
A good rule of thumb for if something is appropriation or not, is if you have to ask.. it probably is, so just don't do it.

Nah, it's because I'm not American. I bet I know more about Aboriginal Australians than you!

My Spanish flatmate gave me a sombrero to wear to a party, was that cultural appropriation? That's stupid if it is, it's not sacred it's just used for shade and shit.
