There is a pretty fierce debate going on right now about whether dodgeball is an unethical tool of oppression. I’d really like your opinion, especially those of you who were likely to be oppressed during gym class.
Dodgeball is fun has been waning for years I don't think the common person felt pissy over it. Fat kids for sure get picked last cause that was me but eventually i would get picked somewhere in the middle cause was decent at it. Honestly, it's purely about performance.
I think gym class should be streamed for athletic versus unathetlic people Like Pure Math versus Applied Math
if u can dodge a wrench you can dodge a ball. also lets be real about it. if dodgeball was honestly considered a "tool of oppression" schools would've outlawed it by now. we have to stop throwing these labels on things we dont like. we're mitigating what true oppression is by doing that
Dodgeball was the only game in PE that I liked. All other sports I was bullied about because I was awful, but I excelled at dodgeball to the point where I was always the last one standing. Dodgeball days were the ONLY time I wasn't picked last in gym class. I was very chubby as a kid with a short Achilles tendon that was so bad it affected my mobility and balance (I ended up needing surgery to correct it). I was often mocked for running funny, especially during track and field... but when it came to dodgeball, I was the queen bee.
i too loved dodgeball day. the thing about us was football players were only allowed to play other football players. it was intense fun
I was not over weight and was completely able bodied but I still relate to this so much. No one would be disappointed with you if you didn’t hit someone or got hit. There were no opportunities to not pass to someone because they aren’t good enough at the sport. I never liked team sports because I would never be included in the team. Although I also sucked at dodge ball and was often out early on
That’s a weird rule. There wasn’t really a serious football team at my school but I’m pretty sure the hockey players played with the class. What grades/ages would this have been?
