Hey guys, so my computer (PC) keeps randomly shutting off. The screen will say no signal. The computer will restart but when it comes back on nothing has closed down. I am not super tech handy clearly.

When it comes back, does it go through the normal boot cycle? Or does it just wake up to the lock screen (or desktop)? Sounds like it's just going to sleep.

I thought that too, I went into my settings and changed the sleep mode to "never". I checked all the cables/unplugged and plugged back in. No normal boot cycle.

Is it still doing it after the sleep mode is set to never? Are the cables going to your screen in good condition? Could be a short or something there,.

Sounds like it’s going into hibernation mode, you can disable that in the power settings

Have you tried not having your computer randomly shutting off?

I had a similar issue a long time ago. Computer would just randomly shut off. Than a second later, the fan would kick in and it would come back alive like nothing happened. It was the beginning of the end of my graphics card.

Broken GPU, bad memory, or fried motherboard. Hard to tell which unless you go through the steps of troubleshooting but it’s one of those two.

I was trying to avoid hardware, hibernation is the only one that really explains booting up with everything still the way it was with sleep disabled.

Usually a hardware crash it will blue screen and come back like a fresh boot or just hang and fail to boot

Not necessarily. From the way she was describing the boot process, the fans would spin, and then shut down. That tells me it's hardware. Sleep mode wouldn't start until the computer has booted completely. She's saying it's not even booting into the operating system.
