What’s the Cold War?

 

You want someone 10-20 years older than me, and whose parents were not wealthy enough to buy them a draft deferment.

 

The Cold War was a state of geopolitical tension after World War II between powers in the Eastern Bloc (the Soviet Union and its satellite states) and powers in the Western Bloc (the United States, its NATO allies and others).

 

And to add, Gorbachev supposedly ended it but some say that it is still going on, lol.

 

Basically, the USSR and America were having a war threatening to use nuclear weapons on each other. Did I get that right, @MarkFL?

Didn't you ever watch Dr. Strangelove?

 

The two factions were in an arms race, a buildup of thermonuclear missiles. Yes, I saw Dr. Strangelove.

 

During the Cuban Missile Crisis, a submarine group was going to launch a nuclear missile or torpedo, which might have started World War III, but there was a single down-vote and so they didn't, lol. Phew.

 

And also the space race. Sputnik and then the moon landing, etc.

 

I remember the drills in school where we practiced taking the position our little bodies would be in when the nuclear bast incinerated us. Fun times.
