Has anyone else seen this? I used to watch it until I read that it was totally fake Idk why but the Amish life totally fascinates me. There is something really cool about cooking and baking everything from scratch, (including churning your own butter!) that makes me And how fast they can put up houses, buildings, gazebo's etc is insane.
I think I would be interested in watching it, but it's done by MTV or some stupid channel like that and so I avoid it. I'm so becoming Amish when I retire I watched an Amish movie last week called Witness. Good film, got Harrison Ford in it
Haha I can definitely see you living Amish. I don't think I've seen that movie, I'll put it on my list for when I have some down time.
I haven’t watched this particular show but I watched one on the Hutterite Clooney’s Similar and I was SHOCKED
I used to think that Amish were really cool and nice people, until I read about how they (or at least some of them) treat animals. Seriously? Puppy mills? Apparently they treat animals like objects that can be used and discarded.
That's not limited to the Amish, but it is disgusting. Fundies do the same thing, because they don't believe animals lives are as important as human lives
Genesis 9:3 says, “Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. And as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything.” Genesis 27:3 says, “Now then, take your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field and hunt game for me.” Says some old guys from prehistoric times, for example. So out-dated and always used as a reason for cruelty by fundies
Yes, the monster in the bible loves the smell of blood and burning flesh... To teach the stiff-necked Israelites who’s boss, God said, “So I gave them other statutes that were not good and laws through which they could not live; I defiled them through their gifts—the sacrifice of every firstborn—that I might fill them with horror so they would know that I am Jehovah” (Ez. 20:25–6). I think Richard Dawkins said it best: "The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully."
Goes to teach a lesson though. Life can be hard and a bitch sometimes. We are the values that we actually uphold. We dont need a God to worship we just need awareness of virtue and a striving for morality(not murdering, not raping, not stealing) that keeps us as good people. Christians claim to have a monopoly on virtue, well I say they don't have one, and that other belief sets have even created better outcomes in the humans that followed their teachings.
I cringe every time I hear someone described as "god fearing" as if to imply this made them a better person somehow. I would argue that if someone is behaving a certain way out of fear of damnation and/or in expectation of some reward, and I am acting in the same manner simply because I know it's the right thing to do, then I am the one on the relative moral high ground.
