Baptism is a symbol of swearing allegiance to Christianity. At least it is in the religion I grew up in. I got baptaized at 23 to make my parents and girlfriend happy, but damnit if it wasnt one of the biggest mistakes ever because I'm just not a Christian. The dude's name wasn't even Jesus Christ it was Yeshua Ben Joseph and he was a resistance leader against the Pharisees and the Roman occupation it's a myth that's been wholly blown out of proportion even if he was a great teacher. "Accepting Christ" to me simply means reading his teachings and knowing of them, like with the knowing of any other knowledge that is valuable to man. Swearing fealty to a church or man made organization is going too far imho.
Humans have brains thus forget where they are and where they want to be in life continually. Weekly church gatherings is a method to keep patrons on the path of where they feel they should be. I personally would only attend these cult gatherings to drill the passages into my brain for future references. eg.) When I encounter situations that could require perspective.
Yeah I come from a high control group, a cult, and seriously everything they said was meant to get you to do things like preach more or attend more services or study their books more. It was insane.
The thing I like about Church is finally I get to hear something that sees the groundlessness of the mortals, those that say there is me, a world around me, and I will live and die.
I'll translate: Church sees the lack of foundation of everyday people. Those that are self-centered and don't think about deeper issues. At least I think that's what he's saying, I just think most church's are scams tbh
IMO there’s far more people sitting in church who are blatant sinners, going to church or confessing your sins won’t make you a better person. Being a good person makes you a good person.
Exactly...belief in some sorcery doesn't magically make one a better person...being a better person makes you a better person, and many of us get there without any supernatural beliefs.
I hate religious people who use the argument "if there's no God, then what's the point in abiding by the rules and laws?" (my family uses this one all the time) So the only reason they don't stab a bitch is because of some vague promise of divine reward? That's selfish and a dangerous attitude to have
Indeed. My take on it is if you are behaving in a moral fashion because you fear some supernatural being and/or expect some reward in an assumed afterlife, and I am behaving in a moral fashion because I think it is the right thing to do, then I am morally superior.
Christianity became huge when it provided another avenue for new professions to pop up and these were pretty cushy jobs.
You know, this kind of language may prevent you from becoming the next Canada's prime minister but maybe this is a blessing in disguise for the country's future.
