    Looking back, what did my parents/grandparents think of this? Did they not notice? Why did they have me watch this?

    Because people during that time didn’t think the way people do now. They actually believed in innocence.

    “a cynical exploitation of our childish innocence,” Is a quote from Shirley Temple as an adult discussing her Baby Burlesk shorts. I don't think people were innocent back then at all, I think they got away with a lot more. The shorts were also sexist and racist, typical of that generation.
