    Do any of you break this rule?

    So let's say you're 18 years old. Divide your age by 2 (9) and then add 7 to make 16. So the rule is anything under 16 is weird for an 18 year old to date. Or if you're 30 it would be a 22 year old. Or for a 0 year old, it would be 7 etc.

    I think it's a pretty solid rule. I judge the shit out of people who break it. Come forth if you break it so I can publicly judge you.

    The rule for the elder is, if we let the elder's age be E, that they can only be involved with someone younger, whose age is Y, such that:

    Y ≥ E/2 + 7

    This implies:

    2(Y - 7) ≥ E

    Now, if I put myself in the shoes of the younger, this means:

    2(54 - 7) ≥ E

    2(47) ≥ E

    94 ≥ E

    Egads. a 94 year old woman could date me without violating the rule. :(

    That's cool that your oldest is twice your youngest...if we equate the oldest to twice the youngest, and let the person's age be A, we have:

    2(A - 7) = 2(A/2 + 7)

    Solving for A, we get:

    2A - 14 = A + 14

    A = 28

    So, 28 is the age for which that works. :)

    Do me! What's the oldest cougar I can get? I'm 19.

    The youngest I can go for is 16.5 which would be weird for me. It'd feel like we're at different stages in life, I know a guy who dated a 16 year old (he's my age) and she was complaining about doing homework. The guy was complaining about his full time job. It's just weird.

    I feel like I turned 18 when I was 5, my mind is old. Maybe that's why I speak to you old hags all the time lol.

    If we let the oldest be k times the youngest, where k ≥ 1, we have:

    2(A - 7) = k(A/2 + 7)

    2A - 14 = (k/2)A + 7k

    2A - (k/2)A = 7k + 14

    A((4 - k)/2) = 7(k + 2)

    A = [14(k + 2)]/(4 - k)

    So, we see that for A ≥ 0 (and for A to be defined), we require k < 4.

    I guess that puts my range at 20 (20.5 to be exact) to 40 but I don't see how I could successfully date a 40 year old woman at 27. My range I look in is usually just 5 years in either direction. I'd be potentially willing to bend and go a bit older but not younger for what I'm looking for.

    So, if you are 400 years old, the youngest you can date is 207? :(
