One of my favorite reads assuming that I believe in hell.

    The nine circles of hell
    1.Limbo
    2.Lust
    3. Gluttony
    4. Greed
    5. Wrath
    6. Heresy
    7. Violence
    8. Fraud
    9. Treachery

I thought it was more complicated than that like the 9 circles were according to severity not specific sin...

It is more complex.... but I was just outlining the basic premise. Have you read it?

I had to read it for class. It was really interesting imo just because of the depth that is in it for each section. Or just the basic concept of seeing “sin”. I try not to read it as a Christian reading about Satan and sin or hell but really open minded and it kind of weirded me out.

Huh. Cool man. Yeah sin as a concept isn't a bad one(for keeping the masses in line), but yeah religion meddles too much in human affairs for me to ever want to take it seriously. Dante's Inferno is cool don't get me wrong but it was pure fiction...

Agree 100% pure fiction. But interesting nonetheless. I can’t wait to hear mcp’s stand on this.

I've never read it. But human imaginings of hell are just that to me. :) What my pastor said is that hell is just essentially eternal separation from God, however that will manifest. :)

Have you read 1984 (Orwell)? The tortures to the people as punishment seem pretty much like a really good version of hell on earth because it exploits each individuals' main fear. And many concepts of hell from the distant past, I believe, they got from the idea (Romans were famous for this) that death is a release and the torturous pain inflicted is the punishment. :)

1984? Unfortunately not but I've heard good things and that it was groundbreaking... the term "Orwellian society" comes from it and refers to an authoritarian state...

Dante is one of those dudes that everyone claims to have read, but very few actually have.

I'll be honest, Inferno was too much for me, I didn't finish it lol
