Facebook is literally the worst social media platform evar, not to mention all the harassment that takes place to large amounts of users. The fucking feeds are designed by some asshole that preys on anyone and everyone. It's like the website has the personality of some sex offender that touches each user and then blames the users themselves.

I just don't like that an algorithm choses what I can see. I miss real-time newsfeed.

Except that you can customize what's on your feed so... Learn how to use Facebook. I don't like FB either, but whining about things you can fix is stupid.

I'm pretty sure Nexopia launched first in '03 as Enter Nexus and FB didn't launch until '04.

Oh. Oops. Still, don't see why it killed Nex. Nex wasn't supposed to be Facebook, was it? Nex was awesome forums and stuff.

I remember around '06/'07 Nex was at a high point but everyone started moving over to Facebook because it was the new thing. FB made it easier to find people you actually knew, I never liked that about it but over time I guess it was more appealing.

I literally met entire parties of RL people on here. It was grand. I liked the selective anonymity of Nex.

Nah, I was poor and lived in Calgary at the time. We were dad they never had one there, so we had a house party instead. There were ... Maybe 20 or more of us there? We met up several times after that we well. Long live the Calgary Forum!

@lellojello Do you still live there? I think we need to get the location forums up again.

No. I moved to England for 7 years and now I split my time between Vancouver Island and Vancouver. I know at least one of my Calgary people is in Van now. I should make him come back to Nex.

My finger is on the trigger for Location forums, but things need to be a BIT more active to get those going.

FWIW, I think Facebook has created micro-communities. Things like Nex and Myspace used social media to cast a wide net, connecting people who otherwise might not have connected IRL. Facebook limits your connections. I'm getting increasingly frustrated with it.

I don't believe facebook actually allows any user based editing or prompting of the page setup, it just gets deeper and darker into the algorithm that makes cash money for there services that have no subscription fee. Wasting large amounts of user time and controlling currency flow is way more profitable to them than allowing user freedoms of what seems to be trending information. many nexopia forums became facebook groups.
many nexopia forums moved to other sites.

volume declined, causing people to log in less...
the same thing happened to myspace... and many others...

But, since facebook was the biggest, everyone new copied facebook.
Twitter and Instagram took the "Feed" social media to the extreme, removing everything BUT feeds.
Now, it would seem that some users are returning to the "community" style social media, hopefully Nexopia can capitalize...

I have yet to find a way to get Facebook to stop spoon feeding me. I'm sick of "trends". I'm sick of software guessing what I want to see. I find it tries to force too many connections on me. I treat my own Facebook Timeline exactly how I treat my Nexopia profile. I post things I find interesting in an effort to describe myself. I would further suggest that anyone Nexopia profile that has been customized belongs to a user similar to me. I think this is a different type of person than those who enjoy Twitter and Instagram. It doesn't surprise me @Mark CM that you wish FB would give you more connections, you're an obvious extravert who gains energy from socializing. I, like 40% of humans am introverted and find a feed quite exhausting.
