No, but my parents would never tell me they only had me to make sure they have a caretaker when theyre old.

    Listen up, fool:

Psalm 53:1 - The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.

No, they made a deal with their kids, as explained in my previous post. They never mentioned what their life purpose was.

But wouldn't you want to take care of them when they are old, since they took care of you when you were young? If someone did such a huge favor for you such as raising you when you were a child, wouldn't you feel that the least you should do is take care of them when they are old. Wouldn't you feel that you owed them that?

    Real answer
Ive always wanted to raise a better version of myself. Teach them all the things i wish i didnt have to pickup on my own. Elevate them to something greater.
And cry from my patio swing as i reminisce how small they were when i first held them.

You can’t make a deal with your kids like that. A parent doesn’t have a choice but to take care of their kids.
Maybe it was a sweet mother daughter moment in this case but I still find the implication quite unfair.
I still think if I end up in a position where I am burdening my family with costs of care I’ll find a way to make that stop.

They do have a choice. They can give it up for adoption.
Why is it unfair? Wouldn't you feel obligated to take care of the people that took care of you for almost 20 years of your life?
They wouldn't be burdening me. It would just be a part of my life obligations and expenses, just as necessary to me as my obligations and expenses are to myself.

My parents took care of their children because they loved us and they wanted to see us succeed in life. I will take care of my parents if they need me because I love them and I don’t want them to suffer. I am not in debt to my parents and I hope they don’t feel that I owe them anything for doing their jobs as caretakers for their children.

I guess we will just have to agree to disagree but I just don't feel entitled to them taking care of their children and their children not owing them anything in return for that. :)

I just think that words are really important and “owing” someone is not really a healthy way to look at a parent child relationship.
What happens if your child is unable to provide for you when you are old? They still owe you?

If they are unable, then no but goes with any job. If someone is unable to do the job, then they will be relieved of their obligation, of course. For example, if they are dead, then they will be relieved of their obligation to do their job. :)

It’s only like the last 50-60 years that they expect newborns to live, people used to have 12+ kids just so they could be sure 2-3 would be alive to take care of them

I totally agree with you. A Home without children like a graveyard.
