The thing that scared me most as a young child was the Bible. :)

I wasn't so much bothered by the notion of the great eye in the sky, I was more terrified of the great monster Yahweh and his lust for blood, and the creator of hell.

Why's that? Isn't Yahweh scarier and meaner?

The NT is where the Revelations Of St. John are, Armageddon and the lake of fire, and all that jolly rot. :)

You can take all of that metaphorically. Metaphors don't hurt. :)

When a young child lives in fear and has nightmares about the ill garbage being taught to him, that hurts. :)

Your parents and/or church shouldn't have used Christianity like that.

Damn straight, but that's how you get the next generation of victims...scare the children into submission and hope it sticks for life. I think children should be free from religion, and then allowed to make their choice as an adult. :)

Man, you and I had drastically different ways that Christianity was presented or approached to us, lol, methinks. :)

Many of Paul's letters to some churches became scripture, lol. :) Imagine if you wrote your penpal and centuries later, it became considered sacred to a religion, lol. :)

Yup, 1 and 2 Corinthians and the like. Many scriptures from those books are used often by the cult I grew up in, especially the ones about "womens place in the congregation". Barbaric and innane.

But remember that not all denominations of Christianity are as close-minded as that. :)
